In solar photovoltaic systems, a flow of direct current (DC) electricity is produced when sunlight strikes an array of solar panels. Since appliances and other electrical apparatus operate on alternating current (AC), the DC energy is fed into an inverter that converts the DC power into AC power. This is then fed through a meter and into the Ontario grid.
